Gotham Knights fixed Batgirl's biography after backlash

At least they listened to the community…

Recently WB Montreal hold a discord Q&A and finally, the Gotham Knights' development team addressed the criticism surrounding their version of Barbara Gordon.

If you are not up to date, the character biography on the game’s website depicts how she returned to active duty as Batgirl and… that didn’t end well.

According to the description, Barbara Gordon was able to “train to recover from her wounds” because deciding to not be paralyzed anymore is pretty simple.

If you are not familiar with comic books, you should know that Gordon was shot in the spine by Joker in The Killing Joke and while she may not have the exact same backstory in Gotham Knights, Warner Bros. previously stated Barbara was in a wheelchair following a “face-off” but overcome her disability through sheer training and determination.

The community made clear that these types of tropes are inaccurate and harmful

However, Creative Director Patrick Redding addressed the situation and announced that the biography was adjusted to read: "With extensive training and rehabilitation, she recovered from her wounds, and returned to active duty as Batgirl.”

He also added that the team worked with AbleGamers to learn about different types of spinal injuries and the potential for someone to regain mobility, at least to be a little bit more realistic in their descriptions.

In the end, Redding clarified that the specifics of Barbara’s injury in Gotham Knights would differ from the comics and some of her rehabilitation processes will be depicted in the game itself.

Gotham Knights will drive on October 25th to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
