Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions are at it again. This year has been massive for their video-game-inspired projects for TV and cinema. And it seems that they can’t stop creating more and more content for the fans (and, let’s face it, a broader audience too). The most recent announcement came regarding the famous racing title, Gran Turismo. It turns out that a new movie inspired by the game is coming to the big screen, and now some details of the project have been released.
According to Deadline, Sony Pictures confirmed August 11, 2023, as the release date for the new Gran Turismo movie. And it looks like the story will be inspired by actual events, so that’s an exciting element for the video game adaptation from director Neill Blomkamp and Columbia Pictures.
Deadline also revealed that “Jason Hall wrote the screenplay, and PlayStation Productions’ Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan serve as producers alongside Doug Belgrad, and Dana Brunetti. Based on a true story, the film is the ultimate wish fulfillment tale of a teenage Gran Turismo player whose gaming skills won a series of Nissan competitions to become an actual professional race car driver.”
This is only the tip of the iceberg for the PlayStation company and its franchisees. Let’s keep in mind that we already had Uncharted on the big screen. We also have the God of War and Horizon projects coming up to streaming platforms. And how can we forget the ambitious show for HBO based on The Last of Us, which has already ended filming? There’s a lot coming up for the fans, and from the looks of it, it’s going to keep coming for the next year or so.
