Finally it is clarified if they are canon or not

Avatar: The Legend of Aang is undoubtedly one of the most popular animated series of all time, with thousands of fans worldwide.

As many know, the story of Aang and his friends does not only stay in the animated series; there are also comics and novels continuing the story of what happened after the series or other specific stories of certain characters. However, the question of many is, is this content canon?

As we know, those responsible for this franchise are Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, and it was precisely Michael Dante who decided to talk about this topic in a well-known podcast.

His statements come from the Comic Con Meta*Pod program, and it seems that this content can be considered part of the complete story.

He began by saying, "We're involved in all those main side stories, so in our minds, they're mostly canon." He went on to add: "there are probably some things if we can go back, like: 'that doesn't line up with this.'"

The Avatar co-creator talked about the novels and comics, noting '[...]so there may be some little tweaks here and there...'. Later, he explained that this has changed over time.
So he stressed, "[...], but from now on, we are proceeding as if this is all part of the proper universe and hopefully building on it." Your comments explain a few discrepancies within the canon.

WILL WE SEE AVATAR COMICS AND NOVELS IN ANIMATED FORM?

Michael Dante DiMartino's comments don't mean we'll see some of the Avatar: The Last Airbender comics and novels in animated form.

That made it more explicit by saying, 'I think what we're not doing right now - not saying it couldn't happen one day - is like, not adapting the graphic novels into a [movie or] TV series...'. It's not something I'm considering at the moment.

But DiMartino does not entirely close the door. That is clear from what he said before, and he reaffirmed it by commenting 'again, that could happen in the future. This is a cautious but valid way to proceed.

Especially if the franchise's popularity continues to increase, it is necessary to expand it. The stories contained in derivative works can be taken as a source of inspiration and adjusted. But for that, you will have to spend some time.
