Disney Speedstorm team claims they will be different from Mario Kart

We share the words of those responsible for the title

Some time ago, the Gameloft team surprised us with the incredible free-to-play racing proposal with Disney characters, a game called Disney Speedstorm, which will be coming to consoles and PCs.

As you can probably imagine, being a racing video game with characters from a franchise, some fans began to compare the idea with the famous Nintendo saga, Mario Kart. Some wondered what differentiator this new proposal would have with the popular saga we already know.

The developers themselves already expected this situation, they were prepared to face this question at some point, so in a recent interview with Nintendo Everything, the team mentioned their main differentiators so that their project stands out on its own:

"In Disney Speedstorm, the characters aren't just divided into general types. We've given them 4 classes: Speedster, Brawler, Trickster, and Defender, to support the strong combat racing element of this game. Momentum management is essential, and each class generates an extra boost in different ways, like a brawler who gets an extra boost by stunning other racers or a sprinter who gets an extra boost by going through boost pads. This provides the opportunity for very strategic races if players want to compete head-on that way,” said Aska Suzuki, manager of the game.

In addition, Suzuki shared other elements that each of the characters will include:

“Individual characters not only have special abilities, but are preloaded with specific power-ups, so a cheat character will be more inclined to get items that negatively impact other racers, or a defender might get more defensive items. On top of that! Each power-up can be charged up to perform a different action! On top of that! More than any other racing game I can think of, the choice of characters in Disney Speedstorm is closer to the choice of a MOBA game."

Finally, he promised that Disney Speedstorm would receive new content through updates and season passes after its launch.

In case you don't know about the project, we leave you a trailer so you can take a look:

We remind you that Disney Speedstorm will arrive in the summer of this year on Xbox and PlayStation consoles, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
