It looks like the next phase of the MCU will get a very queer personality on the team

Deadline recently revealed the news about Shea Couleè joining the Marvel world. But, from the looks of it, it turns out that a “secret source” spilled the tea with her arrival with an undefined role in the Disney+ series Ironheart.

The series, announced during SCC 2022, will star Dominique Thorne as Marvel character Riri Williams, a genius inventor and creator of the most advanced suit of armor since Iron Man. Anthony Ramos and Alden Ehrenreich are also on board. In addition, Chinaka Hodge was recently tapped as head writer on the series.

But why make such a big deal about this?

Shea Couleè is one of the top winners of Ru Paul’s Drag Race. She won All Stars 5 and finished as a finalist on the special all-winners edition of All Stars 7 and her original season, Drag Race 9. Couleé also has been featured in major publications worldwide, including multiple Vogue features and covers including Out, Entertainment Weekly, Gay Times, and the international fashion magazine Metal.

Such a top artist like Shea representing the drag community is massive; now that she’s part of the Marvel family, she has officially become the first drag queen to make such an achievement.

It is especially significant for the geeky and LGBT+ followers to see how these characters have made it past the reality show and get a special place in outstanding projects like the MCU.

For the time being, Marvel hasn’t revealed which character Shea Couleè will embody in Ironheart, but hopefully, her appearance will be more meaningful than just “a drag queen in the club.” Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait to find out how Shea will be part of the Ironheart series.
