When it comes to horror video games, names like Resident Evil and Silent Hill usually come to mind. The genre has evolved, and developers have been able to understand it in different ways, but there is one saga to which they all owe a great deal: Alone in the Dark, which has recently confirmed a new installment for PC and consoles that will be released soon.
According to this morning's leak, Mikael Hedberg, author of Frictional Games and the scripts for Amnesia: The Dark Descent and SOMA, one of the most award-winning sci-fi adventures in recent years is writing the story. The main character will be Emily Hartwood and Edward Carnby once more.
In the original 1992 title, the assignment was to investigate the mysterious suicide of the estate's owner as Edward Carnby or Emily Hartwood. We all knew something sinister was lurking behind the case. Everything that followed is history.
The Infogrames' game laid the groundwork for the traditional survival horror that later became a staple of the genre's most famous names. A saga with up to three installments in the 1990s, followed by the critically acclaimed Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare in 2001.
With time, Eden Games released a controversial reboot in 2008, and in 2015, a spin-off (Alone in the Dark: Illumination) that fans of the franchise prefer to pretend like never happened.
