Christofer Sundberg is known in the gaming world as the co-founder of Avalanche Studios, the developer behind the Just Cause franchise, then in 2019 he left the company to form the Liquid Swords studio, and now he is spilling all the secrets from his last years at Avalanche.
One of the most surprising ones was the fact that Avalanche Studios was working on an Iron Man game for two years before it was cancelled due to the studios’ policies (and with a little push from Disney and Marvel too).
A complete chaos
In an interview by Youtube channel MinnMax, Sundberg shared how an open-world Iron Man game was blatantly cancelled by awful decisions from Disney and Marvel around 2012. Apparently, the Mickey Mouse company wanted the team to complete the title earlier than anticipated, which Sundberg said would have "broken the company completely."
“It was, I was a mess by the end… It was like, shortening development time, increasing budget, we would have to hire 70 or 80 people to the team that I would have had the responsibility to find a new project for.”
The development was cut back so much that it was impossible to do it and if they continued the studio would have bankrupted. So, as said before the studio policies avoided a disaster.
Sundberg admitted that even though the project was a mess, the game could have been “really, really good” as it had a heavy focus on melee combat, such as using Iron Man’s repulsors to punch characters through walls.

We would have loved to play this either on Xbox 360, PS3, or PC, but oh well, sometimes things don’t happen for a reason. Would you have played it? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
