Masahiro Sakurai, the creator of Kirby and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, has announced a new project: a YouTube channel dedicated to video game development. Sakurai shared his most recent Super Smash Bros. Ultimate screenshot on Twitter, something he's been doing since 2019, and mentioned starting "something new" with no daily rhythm.
''I've decided to start a new YouTube channel called "Masahiro Sakurai on Creating Games." It launches...right now!'' The official Twitter announcement reads.

“Don’t expect me to stream games or anything like that,” Sakurai says in his first video. “I’ll instead be talking about topics like game development and what makes games fun.”
“I’m often asked to give lectures at game development schools,” he explained, “and while I think it’s a great idea, such presentations can only reach so many people.''
''I feel like there’s plenty of game design knowledge worth sharing and people do occasionally ask me to teach them. Most importantly, those with no game development experience need a good starting point, a small glimpse into what this world is like.''
These videos will be available in Japanese and English, addressing what makes a good or fun design, in a way that can be understood without much experience: they are aimed at all types of viewers. It will show a variety of games but will initially focus on the classics.
Sakurai has been granted permission by Nintendo - which is not directly involved in the channel - to show in-development versions and design documents for Smash Bros., which will provide insight into how these games evolve into their final version.
“I’ve been given the okay to show some things like Smash Bros development builds and design documents I’ve written, which of course means I’m running all this by Nintendo.'' He said. “But just to be clear, Nintendo isn’t involved in this channel. Please understand this is my own personal project.”
Will you be watching Sakurai's channel? Let us know in the comments!
