Sony acquires a mobile studio, Savage Game

The company promises it won’t diminish its commitment

Sony recently acquired Savage Game Studios, a small mobile gaming studio. Sony has long expressed a desire to enter the market, particularly with its PlayStation licenses, and the acquisition of Savage Game Studios is critical to achieving this goal.

Jim Ryan warned us that Sony is not done shopping and will continue to acquire studios to strengthen PlayStation Studios. However, Sony's strategy in this area differs significantly from Microsoft's.

Aside from Bungie, the Japanese manufacturer is more interested in smaller acquisitions, not to expand its catalog but to gain expertise in specific areas. And today's acquisition announcement is a step in that direction.

Hermen Hulst announced today that the PlayStation Studios family will be expanding again. So no, no takeover of a well-known studio in sight because chances are you've never heard of the studio in question.

Savage Game Studios is still a young company led by industry veteran Michail Katkoff, who has worked at Rovio, Zynga, and Supercell, all of which are mobile market heavyweights. The studio is co-managed by Nadjim Adjir, also of Rovio, and Michael McManus, formerly of Insomniac Games.

''As we assured you before with our plans to bring select titles to PC, our efforts beyond console in no way diminish our commitment to the PlayStation community, nor our passion to keep making amazing single-player, narrative-driven experiences. It’s been a tremendous year for games on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4, with huge releases including Horizon Forbidden West, Gran Turismo 7, MLB The Show 22, and on November 9th, the highly anticipated God of War: Ragnarok.''

What do you expect Sony to release with this new acquisition? Let us know in the comments!
