He left earlier this year…

With Overwatch 2 just weeks away from its release is not surprising that more and more news regarding the project come out, even though they are bad ones. The latest involves the departure of a key element in the Design department.

According to the fellow news portal, PC Gamer, Blizzard Entertainment confirmed that Geoff Goodman Lead hero designer, responsible for the design and balance of heroes since the game's inception made the decision to leave the company earlier this year. The statement also confirmed that his last public appearance as part of Blizzard was in a group interview with the press back in June.

"We thank Geoff for his many years of service at Blizzard and wish him all the best. His ability to bring to life Overwatch’s diverse hero roster through gameplay has been incredible, and the mark he’s left on the Warcraft and Overwatch teams will be felt for years to come.”

No further details were disclosed

As always, no details were given on his departure, however, it comes after a series of high-profile Blizzard departures in the buildup and aftermath of the California's Department of Fair Employment and Housing lawsuit against the company. The first one being Overwatch's executive producer Chacko Sonny who left in and producer Tracy Kennedy who left last September.

This departure is also surprising as in an interview with USA Today, Goodman spoke about these high-profile veterans leaving saying that “The morale hit is real. People leaving is never gonna feel good.”.

He did a lot for the game

Goodman has been in the Overwatch team since the very beginning when the team was still working on Project Titan. He was mainly responsible for the balance changes and some of new heroes as well as discussing them in interviews and events. He also helped with major design reworks for Doomfist and Orisa, new heroes Sojourn and Junker Queen are attributed to him; and likely had a saying on several of the game's upcoming heroes, including new support hero Kiriko.

Either way… We wish Goodman great success in his new endeavours.
