During Marvel's Midnight Suns, you might cast your eyes on a particular tree, the bark of which is written: Luke Was Here. This is a tribute that the developers wanted to dedicate to a fan of the game, which unfortunately passed away last November 12.

Luke Wiltshire was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a rare and brutal cancer that affects the sympathetic nervous system when he was only 14 years old. During the nine years of treatment and immobility, he was forced to endure. Luke found solace in video games and Marvel heroes. Last year, when he learned that his situation was not improving and that there seemed to be no more treatment options, Luke made his final wish: to play Marvel's Midnight Suns.

A heart-touching moment in the industry

Luke's sister contacted the Solving Kids' Cancer charity, which, not knowing exactly how to contact the developers at Firaxis, made a post about it on Linkedin. The many shares helped Luke reach out to Firaxis and 2K and get a small game preview.

The build of the Marvel strategy game was by no means ready at the time, but the development team managed to package the first section of the game as best they could, which Luke was able to try out for a preview. The boy also gave his opinion on it, and for that, he was named a game design consultant in the credits.

In case you missed it: Another Nintendo veteran joins Chinese studio Papergames.

Luke sadly passed away a few weeks after having his last wish granted. To retrace Luke Wiltshire's moving story, you can check out the clip we brought you at the beginning, in which the boy's sister recounts the events.

Rest in peace, Luke. We'll see you in the game.
