Microsoft is betting big on artificial intelligence in all its businesses, including video games. A recent report reveals that the company is experimenting with AI and Minecraft. What's interesting is that a demo revealed a new way to enjoy the Mojang Studios title.

According to sources, Microsoft has no plans at this time to harness the potential of AI in a public version of the game. However, these early developments make it clear that the application of artificial intelligence could change the future of Minecraft and other games.

Semafor claims that Microsoft did an internal demo with artificial intelligence and Minecraft. The technology allowed it to control the game by telling it what to do, so there was no need for manual control to execute all of the title's actions. Various AI scholars have revealed how complicated it is to interact with Minecraft via an AI, as the title's mechanics involve extensive lists of instructions to, for example, do a simple construction.

This makes it even more difficult to imagine an AI being able to do anything more complex in the title via text commands. The potential for AI opens the door for it to even be possible to control the game by voice, which would provide new ways to play.

Semafor adds that even an AI could find new ways to build specific objects that players have not thought of. Its potential would be such that users could verbally explain to the AI the type of construction they want.

Microsoft has just made a million-dollar investment in the technology and has already applied it to its Bing browser. In the future, it will use it in software such as Office and other products. It may also see potential in video games and propose interesting projects.
