Recent reports claim that the new Fable is still a long way off and that Playground Games is still not entirely clear on the direction the title will take. It is said that it could draw inspiration from elements of The Witcher to revive the saga, but it seems that some gamers are not fond of the idea.
Journalist Jordan Middler stated that he has heard several conversations about Fable and its development. Thanks to this, he knows that the studio still has doubts about the direction of the project and claims that he has continuously heard the term "Witcher-like" as CD Projekt RED's saga would be a major inspiration.
"I'm not sure if you made an original Fable-style game now it would be what people want. The term 'Witcher-like' was thrown about a lot to me. Which I feel will piss people off that like the original Fable," Middler said on the VGC podcast (via The Gamer).
After the journalist's statements, some Fable fans raised their voices, as they do not like the idea that the next game in the series is inspired by The Witcher. They argue that the franchise in Playground's hands may lose its identity if it takes too many elements from Geralt of Rivia's adventures.
"I love The Witcher, but my gut reaction to this was not good. I hope they don't make the game as dark or realistic as Witcher." stated one Reddit user who commented on the most recent report.
Other gamers believe that Fable has a very special atmosphere and feel that should be preserved. They fear that inspiration will rob the franchise of its true essence. For that reason, they don't agree that it should be similar to CD Projekt RED's saga.
"The Witcher is a playable movie, I want a game. Fable has a simplicity that would be ruined if it's a Witcher clone," added another fan.

It is true that the style of gameplay that Fable and The Witcher have characteristics that make them a bit similar, but the essence is embodied in the story that each one, the interaction with NPC, and all this can be maintained very well as long as some gameplay features are applied to complement it and not transform the new Fable into a clone of The Witcher as many fear.
