Steam Deck in danger? Valve sued for a feature on the gamng device

A technology company is unhappy with Valve's device and other projects

Steam Deck was a hit for Valve, so it's normal to know that the company is already thinking about the next iterations of its portable gaming device. However, it faces a problem related to its popular system, as a company decided to sue them for a feature of the hardware.

Immersion Corporation decided to initiate legal action against Valve due to certain technology it uses in Steam Deck. It argues that Gabe Newell's company violated several of its patents, so it seeks compensation for damages and for Valve not to use its technologies again.

VALVE AND STEAM DECK ARE IN THE MIDDLE OF A LEGAL CONFLICT

Immersion Corporation accuses Valve of using its technology in Steam Deck, in its Valve Index VR device, in Steam VR, as well as in games like Half-Life: Alyx. Specifically, it pointed out the developer for violating at least 7 of its patents.

Some of them are related to the use of haptic vibration used in Steam Deck. Immersion Corporation wants Valve to stop using its technologies in its projects. Likewise, it seeks compensation for royalties and damages.

You probably haven't heard of Immersion Corporation, but you should know that the company has also sued Sony, Microsoft, Apple, Google, and other major companies for similar reasons.

According to Engadget, Sony and Microsoft resolved the legal conflict and subsequently licensed Immersion Corporation's patents. The same thing happened when the technology company sued Motorola and Fitbit.

We know that Nintendo also made agreements with Immersion Corporation to use its technology and that Meta has an active patent infringement lawsuit. At the time of writing this, Valve has not commented on the matter, so we will have to wait to find out what path it will take to resolve this conflict.
