HBO confirms that the writers guild strike impacted The Last of Us, what will happen to Season 2?

The company briefly talked about a possible third season for the popular series

In early May, the Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike erupted. HBO confirmed this morning that the event has already affected several of its productions, including The Last of Us.

Several reports have stated that the strike has already impacted the popular series, but it is only now that HBO has officially confirmed it. Francesca Orsi, executive and head of the company's dramatic series, spoke about the effects of the strike and what will happen with Joel and Ellie's adventure. She also took the opportunity to comment on a possible Season 3.

THE LAST OF US SEASON 2 IS ON HOLD DUE TO THE STRIKE

In recent statements, Orsi confirmed that the writers' strike has already impacted The Last of Us, their plans for Game of Thrones, and other series such as The White Lotus. Writing for the upcoming seasons of these productions is currently on hold, which will surely impact their release date.

Orsi still hopes that the conflict will be resolved and that it won't affect the series so much that they have to adjust the 2024 and 2025 schedule. She stated that it is still too early to measure the real effect that the strike will have, but everything indicates that the release of The Last of Us Season 2 is compromised.

"We were thinking about The Last of Us for 2025. And ideally, The White Lotus would come out in 2024, but there are doubts due to the development of the strike," commented Orsi.

On the other hand, the executive was questioned about the possibilities of seeing a Season 3 of The Last of Us. She affirmed that, for now, it is not guaranteed and that they are focused on the second season, but she did not completely rule out the possibility of the series continuing after the new episodes they are working on.

"I think Craig and Neil are still thinking about the end. We've heard vaguely that there will be an idea for a third season for the series, but right now, we're taking one season at a time. At this point, there is no guarantee that we will have a third season, but I know they both have a vision for the third season. I don't yet know if that lends itself to doing more [seasons]," Orsi concluded."
