“The fans really liked the movie”, producer of Uncharted wants to make a sequel

In recent years, we've seen more efforts to bring video game franchises to the big screen. One of the most recent adaptations is the live-action version of Uncharted, which debuted in 2022. Although it fell short and was unable to win over the hearts of fans, it performed well commercially. With this in mind, is a sequel in the plans?

In a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, Charles Roven, who served as a producer on the film starring Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg, enthusiastically expressed his desire to work on a second installment. Furthermore, he stated that the first film was well-liked by fans and the general audience.

A SEQUEL TO UNCHARTED COULD BE A REALITY

"Oh yeah! We had a really good time with that movie. The fans really liked the movie, and people who didn’t know anything about the game really liked the movie. So we are definitely looking to make another one of those", the producer said during the interview. However, it's important to note that Sony has not yet confirmed the production of the sequel.

That being said, it's likely that a new installment is among the projects. While the live-action Uncharted film had a lukewarm reception from critics and die-hard fans of the franchise, it was a box office success and is one of the most successful video game adaptations in history.

Following the film's strong performance at the box office, Sony expressed satisfaction, and CEO Tom Rothman expressed his desire to turn it into a film franchise. We should remember that this was one of the first productions to reach theaters after the health crisis.

Due to Hollywood being paralyzed by the writers' and actors' strike, it seems unlikely that more news related to the hypothetical Uncharted sequel will emerge in the near future. Should the project come to fruition, it will be interesting to discover whether Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg will return to portray Nathan Drake and Victor Sullivan, respectively.
