The bitter experience of Cyberpunk 2077 has passed, and redemption will likely come with its expansion Phantom Liberty. A tough lesson for CD Projekt, which, at least in terms of planning, seems to have learned from its mistakes, resulting in a very ambitious roadmap for future projects. The next destination is the new installment of The Witcher, and the Polish studio is determined not to fail.
CD Projekt RED is going all out for the new The Witcher installment
During a briefing on the state of CD Projekt RED and its projects (via VGC), Adam Kiciński, CEO, discussed the transition that will take place after the release of the Cyberpunk 2077 DLC. According to the former creative and current executive, efforts will be focused on the upcoming The Witcher saga, which will begin with the video game currently codenamed Polaris. This game will move away from the adventures of Geralt of Rivia to make way for a new story.
Over 500 workers will bring The Witcher: Polaris to life
In this regard, the CEO revealed the number of employees across these 2 projects and the changes that will occur after the release of Phantom Liberty. This confirms that CD Projekt RED will spare no human resources for its next major video game: "At the end of July, the Phantom Liberty team working on pre-launch was made up of 300 people. That's fewer than at the end of 2022, but it's still our largest team. On the other hand, the Polaris team has grown to almost 260 developers since the end of July. After launching Phantom Liberty, we will transfer a significant portion of the team to Polaris.
The news from CD Projekt RED gives us insight into their priorities. Just last July, the studio announced the layoff of over 100 workers, leaving them with an estimated workforce of 900 employees. Considering the figures shared by Adam Kiciński, the next installment of The Witcher will involve over 500 workers. According to the studio's management, the layoffs are part of a new era that allowed them to reduce personnel to avoid crunch.
