Unity is on everyone's lips after it announced adjustments to its fee system that were not at all well received by developers. The situation escalated when the company was forced to close several of its offices and cancel meetings due to death threats.
The authorities had to intervene and, after an investigation, they have now revealed more details about this case. Thanks to this, we know that the threats were made by an employee of the same company.
Police intervened in Unity offices after death threats
According to a San Francisco police report (via Polygon), there were indeed death threats made towards Unity and its management. The issue is that they were made by a company employee working out of an office not located in Carolina.
The report reveals that the threats were made through social networks, but there are no further details. The identity of the worker was kept anonymous and, for now, it is not known what will happen to this person.
Meanwhile, the community of developers and creators continues to raise its voice against the measures that Unity will apply from January 1, 2024. The vast majority of devs are against the new fees for the installation of their games, as it implies costs that they had not contemplated since the beginning of their ongoing projects.
What is Unity?
If you are aware of this controversial case, but don't know what Unity is, we will tell you in brief that it is a very popular development engine and platform. It is the preferred choice of many developers because of its intuitive use, its cross-platform support, as well as its great community and support.
It is one of the ideal tools for creating high-quality games for a variety of platforms. Its success is due in large part to its ability to simplify the development process and provide powerful tools for game creators of all levels and genres. Now, Unity is facing a complicated situation that may end this popularity.
