Michael Myers, Ghostface, or Chucky in Mortal Kombat 1? Ed Boon Excites Gamers

It seems that the NetherRealm Studios video game could welcome these horror movie icons.

Mortal Kombat is a saga filled with memorable and iconic characters that are already part of pop culture. However, the recent releases are known for featuring guest fighters from third-party IPs. Mortal Kombat 1 seems to be following the same path, and it appears that some icons from the horror movie genre might join the fray.

Ed Boon, the co-creator of the franchise and head of NetherRealm Studios, is a very active personality on social media. He is known in the community for posting and sharing cryptic messages that may or may not reveal the projects his team is working on.

Horror Movie Characters Could Join Mortal Kombat 1

In the last few hours, the creative mind sparked much speculation. Through a post on his personal Twitter account, he shared a picture featuring Leatherface (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre), Pinhead (Hellraiser), Jason Voorhees (Friday the 13th), Freddy Krueger (Nightmare on Elm Street), Billy (Saw), Chucky (Child’s Play), Michael Myers (Halloween), and Ghostface (Scream).

Interestingly, there's a symbol on the heads. Those characters with a "checkmark" have already appeared as guest fighters in some installment of the franchise. Thus, Ed Boon seems to be hinting that Chucky, Ghostface, Billy, Pinhead, or Michael Myers could join the Mortal Kombat 1 roster.

We should remember that NetherRealm Studios has already revealed the first Kombat Pack, so a second downloadable content pack could include some of these characters.

Although we'll have to be patient and wait, it's worth noting that dataminers have already found information in the game's internal files that seems to refer to Ghostface, the main antagonist of the Scream franchise. Will he cross fists with Scorpion and company in Mortal Kombat 1?

Guest Characters Appearing in Mortal Kombat 1

Fortunately, NetherRealm Studios has already announced the fighters that will make up the first Kombat Pack. Despite seeing fighters from the Mortal Kombat IP like Ermac, Quan Chi, and Takeda, the most intriguing additions are the guest characters.

Players who purchase the DLC pack will be able to play as Homelander from The Boys, Peacemaker from DC Comics, and Omni-Man from Invincible. The release dates remain a mystery.

But tell us, which horror franchise character would you like to see in NetherRealm Studios' title? Let us know in the comments.

Mortal Kombat 1 is now available for Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, PC, and PlayStation 5.
