Amazon Prime Video will have commercials soon. When will they appear, and how can you avoid them?

The streaming platform has asserted that taking this step is necessary to sustain its operation.

Someday we will tell future generations that we had internet sites and services without commercials, which at the time seemed like a new era replacing traditional forms of entertainment amid the decline of public and cable TV. The future proved otherwise, and now streaming services are taking the controversial step for financial reasons. One of the most significant ones will do so starting next year.

When will commercials arrive on Amazon Prime Video?

Moments ago, Twitter personality Wario64 shared the statement that has begun to circulate from Amazon Prime Video, informing about the imminent arrival of commercials on its streaming platform for series and movies starting next year, as announced a few months ago. According to the information, starting January 29, 2024, movies and TV series on Prime Video will feature commercials.

In response, Amazon stated that the inclusion of brief commercials in its Prime Video streaming service is a financial necessity to ensure the platform's operation and investment in its film and TV projects. Trying to alleviate some tension, the statement mentions that they will aim for fewer ads than other streaming platforms, keeping their consumers in mind.

How to avoid commercials on Amazon Prime Video, and when will they arrive in Mexico?

As is happening with various streaming services, Amazon Prime Video will offer an option for users to avoid interruptions of their series or movies with commercials. This will be possible by paying an additional $2.99 USD per month, on top of the $14.99 USD monthly membership cost in the United States.

As previously announced, the introduction of commercials on Prime Video will initially take place in the United States, Canada, and Germany, but throughout 2024, the new scheme will expand to the rest of the world, with Mexico scheduled to implement it by the end of next year. Thus, Amazon Prime Video will have two subscription levels: the first maintaining the regular monthly or yearly price but featuring commercials, and the second, which will not display commercials in exchange for an additional payment.

Finally, Amazon stated that as the dates approach for each market, they will send an email to users announcing the changes and providing instructions for choosing the subscription plan that suits them best.

What are your thoughts on this new era of streaming services? Will they become the TV we criticized for years?
