Many PlayStation fans got an unpleasant surprise at Christmas and the rest of the year-end holidays. What happens is that an annoying bug caused problems in the brand's ecosystem and left many of its users without attractive rewards.
In case you don't know, the PlayStation Stars program ran into problems at the end of 2023. Regularly, players receive points when making purchases; however, a bug prevented users from receiving rewards for their holiday shopping. Fortunately, Sony has since corrected the bug and apologized for what happened.
Sony already fixed annoying PlayStation Stars bug
Users of PlayStation Stars were expecting to get a good amount of points with their end-of-year purchases. However, the bug prevented them from doing so and they were totally disappointed. Especially since they considered the points as lost.
The rewards program behaved strangely in December, depriving some users of their points while giving others a larger amount of points. Fortunately, Sony has now fixed the problem.
Players who did not receive their points already have them in their accounts. On the other hand, the company adjusted the balance of users who received too many points. In case they have spent them, then their balance will be negative until they recover the points they received.
"“Unfortunately, due to a system error, you were awarded the incorrect number of points. The error has now been fixed and your points balance has been corrected. (...) We appreciate your understanding and apologize for the inconvenience," Sony said in an email it sent to those affected.
In case you don't remember, PlayStation Stars offers brand-inspired digital collectibles. In addition, its points system allows you to earn rewards like PlayStation Store credit or some games.
