New report reveals more details on rumored PS5 revision

Everything indicates that the revelation of the PlayStation 5 Pro is only a matter of time. We tell you this as a very reliable source had access to documents where some of the features and technologies that will power the PlayStation 5 revision are confirmed.

According to the details, the most powerful console is a fact and Sony has already asked several developers to prepare improved titles for the launch. Likewise, it is reaffirmed that its release will probably occur at the end of this year.

Tom Warren, a journalist for The Verge, confirmed that he had access to documents detailing the technical specifications of the PlayStation 5 Pro, a system known by the codename Trinity. It assures that Sony considers this revision a high-end console for all the improvements it will offer gamers.

The report also reveals that the company has already asked several developers to have their games ready with multiple optimizations, some of them focused on ray-tracing related improvements. To this end, studios can already request test kits. Sony's goal is that all games entering certification in August will be compatible with its new console, which is expected by the end of the year.

Warren reaffirms what we have known thanks to previous leaks: the console will have a more powerful GPU and a faster CPU. This with the aim of offering higher resolutions and frames per second in compatible games. In addition, there will be improvements regarding GPU processing, as it is expected to be 45% faster compared to the standard model.

The document also mentions that the PlayStation 5 we all know will still be available on the market. So Sony has no intention of discontinuing it, at least not in the short term.

Another interesting detail is that the CPU will be the same as that of a standard PlayStation 5; however, it will feature a new mode to offer a speedup of approximately 10%. Studios will be able to choose between using the normal 3.5 GHz mode or the high-frequency 3.85 GHz mode.

In addition, it is revealed that studios will have access to 1.2 GB more system memory overall. So now they will be able to use 13.7 GB for their games instead of the current 12.5 GB. Finally, the presence of PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), a scaling technology that promises similar results to Nvidia's Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS), is confirmed.

What improvements will the games on PlayStation 5 Pro have?

According to past reports, games on PlayStation 5 Pro will offer constant 60 fps, will have or increase ray tracing effect and will use PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) technology to reach 4K.

Sony will use the label "Enhanced for PS5 Pro" to distinguish games with optimizations. We know that in that field it will also group titles that meet one of the conditions below:

  • Increased maximum target resolution for titles running at fixed resolution on standard console
  • Increased target maximum resolution for titles that run at variable resolution on standard console
  • Increased target frame rate for titles running at a fixed frame rate on the standard console
  • Increased target frame rate for titles running at a fixed frame rate on the standard console
  • Increased target frame rate for titles running at a fixed frame rate on the standard console
  • Inclusion of PS5 Pro ray-tracing effects
