Redfall debuted 1 year ago and its DLC still hasn't arrived; fans are disappointed

The community is still waiting for news and improvements for the shooter.

Redfall became one of the biggest disappointments of 2023 for several reasons: a development full of stumbles, several broken promises, technical problems, an unappealing visual appearance and mechanics that failed to capture players' attention.

This week, the title from Arkane Austin and Bethesda celebrated its first year on the market. The date did not go unnoticed by players, much less for those who are still waiting for news and improvements that the studios promised.

Specifically, the release of several DLC, with additional playable characters, skins and other cosmetic content, is still pending. Part of the community has already lost hope and believes that it will never arrive.

Fans remember Redfall and its broken promises

For months now, players have been asking the developers for various optimizations to improve the gameplay experience in Redfall. Arkane released several updates that polished important aspects of the title; however, although there were things left pending along the way.

Among them is the additional content promised by the Bite Back edition, which was offered for $100 USD at the premiere. As we told you, additional characters and aesthetic aspects for weapons are missing.

Some players think that the developers are still preparing the content; however, others think it will never arrive. The community believes that the first anniversary would have been the ideal date for the release, but simply nothing happened. For that reason, many fans are disappointed.

What happened to Redfall?

We know that the development of Redfall was a disaster from the start. Arkane didn't want to make a game-as-a-service with a multiplayer focus; however, the project remained on track despite the studio's expertise in immersive sims.

Reports revealed that the title lacked a clear direction in its concept. On the other hand, they pointed out a constant lack of staff for such a project and clarified that even the support from other ZeniMax studios was insufficient.

All this caused several problems. On the one hand, developers dissatisfied with the project and the multiplayer approach left the company. It is claimed that 70% of the staff who had worked on Prey left the studio because of the Redfall disaster. Finally, Xbox did not intervene when it bought Bethesda, which cost it harsh criticism for allowing the title to debut in that state.
