Sea of Thieves, Grounded, Hi-Fi RUSH, and Pentiment are Xbox games that are already available on other platforms. Initially, Phil Spencer, head of Microsoft Gaming, stated that they had no plans to bring more games to PlayStation and Nintendo beyond the four mentioned titles.
However, in a recent interview, he confirmed what several leaks and reports revealed a few days ago: Xbox will bet on more multiplatform releases, so in the future, we will see other Xbox games on competing consoles.
Xbox Will Bet on the Multiplatform Approach
We know that the new approach from Microsoft and Xbox is called Latitude, which involves bringing some of their games to PlayStation and Nintendo platforms. This is without completely abandoning exclusives for Xbox players.
Recent reports state that Xbox has not ruled out ports of Hellblade 2, Age of Empires, Age of Mythology, and Starfield for PlayStation 5. Additionally, it is said that they are working on a remaster of Halo: Combat Evolved that could come to Sony’s console.
With that said, the company’s focus is quite clear, and Spencer confirmed that they will indeed bring more Xbox games to other platforms. However, he did not give hints about which titles might become multiplatform in the near future.
"Our commitment to our Xbox customers is you’re going to get the opportunity to buy or subscribe to the game, and we’re going to support the game on other screens. You are going to see more of our games on more platforms, and we just see that as a benefit to the franchises that we’re building, and we see that from players, and the players love to be able to play,” Spencer stated during a talk with IGN.
Of course, various games from Bethesda and Activision Blizzard are expected to come to all platforms, but the new strategy also involves bringing titles from Xbox Game Studios to PlayStation or Nintendo. Spencer believes that Xbox fans should not worry, as they will still have exclusive releases and also be able to enjoy all games at no additional cost with Xbox Game Pass.
