During the Xbox Games Showcase 2024, Microsoft revealed 3 new consoles: a black 2 TB Xbox Series X, a white Xbox Series X without a disc drive, and a white 1 TB Xbox Series S. According to recent reports, the arrival of this new line of hardware will soon cause an existing Xbox Series S model to be discontinued and subsequently disappear from stores.
Xbox could discontinue the Series S Carbon Black
Mid last year, Microsoft revealed a black Xbox Series S called Carbon Black. Its main feature is that it has 1 TB of storage, unlike the original white model of the console which has 512 GB. Because of this, it became an attractive option for players.
Various reports claim that the Xbox Series S Carbon Black will be discontinued soon and will be replaced by the newly announced Xbox Series Robot White, which also has 1 TB of storage.
According to YouTuber Austin Evans, Microsoft wants their black consoles to be identified as systems that include a disc drive. On the other hand, the white consoles will be those that are entirely digital.
If the report is accurate, the Xbox Series S Carbon Black does not fit these criteria, but the new white Series S with more storage does. Additionally, Eurogamer received information about the consoles that Microsoft will offer to players this upcoming holiday season.
Interestingly, the list mentions the new and original consoles but excludes the Xbox Series S Carbon Black. For this reason, many believe the system's days are numbered.
