Despite having a very active and passionate community, Bloodborne remains in eternal slumber, and it is unknown if it will ever return with a sequel, a remake, a PC port, or at least a re-release for PlayStation 5. Fans are slowly losing hope, but a fun cameo has rekindled their excitement; however, are there reasons to be excited?

In the latest State of Play, Sony shared the first official trailer for Astro Bot, the next project from Team ASOBI. For those unfamiliar, it is a 3D platformer that will include numerous references to the PlayStation universe and its franchises.

Shortly after the reveal, the development team confirmed that those who purchase the Digital Deluxe Edition will get early access to a special outfit inspired by the main character from Bloodborne. Players will also be able to unlock this costume as they progress through the game.

Additionally, Astro’s Playroom from 2020 was updated to add a new trophy and an unprecedented skin based on Lady Maria, one of the most important characters from the The Old Hunters expansion of the acclaimed FromSoftware title. Could Team ASOBI be hinting that Sony's forgotten franchise will return soon?

Bloodborne cameo in Astro Bot has no hidden meaning, says director

Due to the references to Bloodborne in Astro Bot and its predecessor Astro’s Playroom, fans began to speculate that the developers were hinting at the return of the soulslike. While it is an exciting theory, a member of Team ASOBI spoke on the matter and put an end to the rumors.

In statements to the portal Eurogamer, the head and creative director of the development studio, Nicolas Doucet, stated that “there is no hidden meaning” and that “it is simply a celebration of the entire history of PlayStation.” Thus, the references to the FromSoftware game do not suggest that Sony has plans for the franchise.

Previously, it was revealed that Astro Bot will have more than 150 cameos from PlayStation series. In the official trailer, we could see Nathan Drake from Uncharted, Kratos from God of War, Aloy from Horizon Forbidden West, and so on. Regarding this, Nicolas Doucet commented that the team focused more on the characters.

“Instead of the hardware, we focused our attention on the characters. And that’s why we pushed these cameos. They used to be quite primitive, but now they look much more detailed. There are over 150 [cameos], so we’re going to go deep, and everyone should have their favorites,” commented the creative.

In a recent interview, Hidetaka Miyazaki, director of Bloodborne, stated that there are members of FromSoftware who would like to see a PC port. “It’s not something I oppose,” he commented.
