One of the most anticipated video games in recent years is Black Myth: Wukong, and on August 20th it will finally be released on PlayStation 5 and PC. However, despite the excitement and impressive previews, it is not without controversy, and one issue is related to the supposed delay of the Xbox Series X|S version due to optimization details, to which Microsoft has responded.
Why won't Black Myth: Wukong be released on Xbox at launch? Microsoft responds
Amid the controversy over the absence of the Xbox Series X|S version at the launch of Black Myth: Wukong, Windows Central journalist Jez Corden asked Microsoft and Xbox about this situation and the real reason why the game will not be available at launch. In this regard, the American company stated that it is working with the developers, Game Science, to have the Xbox version ready as soon as possible. However, their message did not end there, as it hinted at a possible arrangement favoring another platform.
Regarding this, Microsoft's and Xbox's statement said: "We are excited for the launch of Black Myth: Wukong on Xbox Series X|S and are working with Game Science to bring the game to our platforms. We cannot comment on the agreements made by our partners with other platform holders, but we remain focused on making Xbox the best platform for gamers, with great games at the heart of that."
Is there a deal between PlayStation and Game Science for Black Myth: Wukong?
"Agreements made by our partners with other platform holders..." this phrase caused a stir on social media, leading to speculation that Game Science and PlayStation have made a private agreement for Black Myth: Wukong to have temporary console exclusivity favoring PlayStation 5, at least that’s what the community thinks following Microsoft's statements.
So far, it is believed that the absence of a launch version of Black Myth: Wukong on Xbox Series X|S is related to the Xbox Series S, as the console's limitations pose an additional challenge for developers to ensure the game runs with lower performance than on Xbox Series X. However, there is nothing official indicating this situation, unlike what happened with Baldur's Gate 3.
On the other hand, it should not be forgotten that the launch of Black Myth: Wukong will be problematic, as Game Science acknowledged that their first globally debuting console game overwhelmed them, and they will not have a physical edition with a disc at launch, so the first copies will include a code to download the game. In any case, the studio may have underestimated the development and distribution process, resulting in a challenging launch window for all three platforms where the game will be released.
Despite all the speculation and Microsoft's recent response, the reality is that Black Myth: Wukong will not be available on Xbox Series X|S at launch, and Microsoft console users will have to wait.
