Players were expecting to enjoy the title this year as a day-one release

Xbox Game Pass has pampered its subscribers with fabulous games throughout 2024. Microsoft still has more surprises in store for the coming months; however, there is some bad news, as a highly anticipated sequel canceled its arrival on the service.

The announcement took players by surprise, as the title had been confirmed as a day-one release for Xbox Game Pass. Through a statement, Thunderful confirmed that SteamWorld Heist II will not be coming to the platform and explained the reasons.

SteamWorld Heist II was revealed in April during a Nintendo Indie World Showcase, where it was announced for Switch. Shortly after, its arrival on other platforms, including Xbox, was confirmed. Its revelation excited many fans, as the franchise enjoys good popularity and the first installment captivated players with its world, characters, and strategy mechanics.

The first trailer released by Thunderful confirmed that SteamWorld Heist II was planned to arrive on Xbox Game Pass as a day-one release. However, we now know that this was all a mistake and that the title will not be on Microsoft's service.

The studio deleted the various social media posts and edited the video where it was confirmed that the title would arrive on Xbox Game Pass next August 8. According to the company, it all stemmed from a mistake in the editing of the promotional material for the sequel.

That said, it is better for players not to expect SteamWorld Heist II on Microsoft's service, at least not at its launch. Previously, similar situations have occurred with other games, which were announced by mistake or for which there was no agreement for their arrival on Xbox Game Pass.
