A few days ago, Batman: Arkham Shadow, a new game of the Dark Knight, was announced; however, its reveal disappointed many as it’s a virtual reality title and not a game that will follow the acclaimed approach Rocksteady gave to the DC franchise.
Fans of the superhero have not lost hope of seeing a new Batman game with the classic action-adventure formula, as a new report claims that a franchise project is in development and will be based on The Batman, the movie directed by Matt Reeves and starring Robert Pattinson.
A game of The Batman linked to the series The Penguin is reportedly in development
According to a report by Puck News (via VGC), Warner Bros. is currently working on a game based on The Batman. The source recalls that AT&T attempted to sell Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment in 2020; however, the deal ultimately fell through as the company allegedly deemed the gaming division too valuable to sell.
David Zaslav, the company’s CEO, saw an opportunity for the various Warner Bros. divisions to collaborate more closely on new projects. It is said that one of these is a game of The Batman that will be tied to The Penguin, a series that will premiere on September 19.
There is speculation that it is very unlikely the title will focus on the new production of the franchise. It is believed that the main source of inspiration will be Matt Reeves' and Robert Pattinson's film, which was released in 2022.
A sequel to that film is currently in the works, so a game linked to this universe makes sense. On the other hand, it's worth noting that the iconic The Batman suit was added to Batman: Arkham Knight a few months ago, which could be a clear hint about the saga’s future.
That said, it's important to mention that Warner Bros. has not confirmed anything about this nor made any statements regarding the recent report. So, it's best to take this information as a rumor, at least for now.
