The new model of Sony's next-gen console is designed to offer a higher-quality graphical experience while maintaining a smooth 60 fps rate. The goal is to eliminate the barrier between Fidelity Mode and Performance Mode available in many games.

This was achieved through 3 basic principles. First, the GPU has been updated and now features 67% more compute units and 28% faster memory. According to Sony, this upgrade allows for rendering up to 45% faster compared to the base model.

Additionally, the PS5 Pro has more powerful ray tracing, providing more dynamic light reflection and refraction. Finally, it introduces AI-powered upscaling technology. This upgrade is called PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSS), offering greater image clarity by adding more detail through artificial intelligence.

The new Sony hardware model includes PS5 Pro Game Boost, a feature that stabilizes or improves the performance of compatible PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 titles. According to the official announcement, at launch, it will apply to more than 8,500 games, including Alan Wake 2, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, The Last of Us: Part II, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Gran Turismo 7, Hogwarts Legacy, The First Descendant, and more.

Players will be able to identify titles that receive a free update with the PS5 Pro Enhanced label. Sony confirmed that PlayStation 5 Pro will also support titles with VRR and 8K.

When will the PS5 Pro debut, and how much will it cost?

The new model has the same height and width as the original console. It’s important to note that it does not include a disc drive, but players can purchase a Blu-Ray Ultra HD drive separately. It will also be compatible with all previous accessories, such as PS VR2, PlayStation Portal, DualSense Edge, and more.

The PlayStation 5 Pro will be available on November 7, 2024, at the company’s official store and major retailers, with pre-orders starting on September 26. It will cost $699.99 USD and include a 2TB SSD, a DualSense controller, and a pre-installed copy of Astro’s Playroom. Unfortunately, the vertical stand is sold separately.
